PRESENTATIONS:

1. Underground Pipe Rules with the DFPC

The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control’s (DFPC) Fire Suppression Program Rules have served as the minimum regulations for all fire suppression systems installed in the state since 1991. All commercial and residential systems, except Multipurpose Systems, fall under these Program Rules. This course will cover the Program requirements for systems, systems installers (sprinkler fitters, underground fireline contractors and inspection/testing/maintenance technicians) and plan reviewers and fire inspectors conducting work on behalf of the DFPC. Case studies, best practices and industry experiences will also be discussed.

International Fire Code (current DFPC adopted edition)

NFPA 24 Standard for the Installation of Private Fire Service Mains and Their Appurtenances (edition referenced by current DFPC adopted version of the IFC)

DFPC Fire Suppression Program Rules (8 CCR 1507-11)

2. Fire Prevention Week 2026 topics

Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10, and this year’s focus is on charging lithium-ion batteries safely and correctly. This presentation will provide practical, ready-to-use resources and messaging to make it easier to educate your community about lithium-ion battery safety. Attendees will leave with tools, ideas, and simple strategies they can use to effectively share this important fire prevention message.

2. Colleen Potton (South Metro Fire Rescue)

Colleen Potton has served her community through the fire service since 2000, beginning her career as a firefighter. Since 2008, she has worked as a Community Risk Reduction Specialist with South Metro Fire Rescue, where she focuses on identifying and addressing risks faced by vulnerable populations. Through data-informed strategies and community-focused approaches, Colleen is dedicated to reducing risk and increasing safety. Colleen holds a Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in Mathematics and Science from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. She earned her master’s degree in educational leadership in 2023
