Hazardous occupancies pose a wide range of challenge to the code official. From the type of construction for both fire resistance and structural elements to detection and suppression systems, the building codes require specific features for these structures. The seminar explains how the code categorizes various hazardous occupancies and provides safety requirements related to each type. The science behind hazards will help to apply the requirements for systems including detection, suppression and explosion control. Upon completion, code officials will understand the classifications of hazardous occupancies and the specialized construction and fire safety required for each. Discussion of the nature of the hazards and special exemptions along with case studies prepare the student for plan review of hazardous uses.
